So what has happened since the last post? Well, Easter came and went:

Easter was a ton of fun because Beth came in from New York. She's now staffed on a project in Detroit... Joey is still doing military training, about to be in Florida, and then on to a permanent assignment in North Carolina. It seems like I rarely see my siblings anymore. Anyway, I own a wii now, and I enjoyed kicking Beth's tail at bowling, baseball, tennis, golf... you name it... I kicked her tail at it. "Just like the old days." My granny and papaw enjoyed the wii too. As a matter of fact, papaw got her one for their 52nd wedding anniversary earlier today.
Other goings ons... Carissa had her first haircut:

She got it cut at "Cool Cuts for Kids" off of El Dorado. The place was perfect for small children. They even had video game stations for the kids while they waited. Where was this when I was growing up??
In April, 97.5 the ticket, the local ESPN radio sports station, had a promotional contest, and I was the lucky one out of 13 possible winners to get the trip for four to the Kentucky Derby. Jonda's parents, Jonda, and I flew out to Louisville and went through five states in 3 days. We did the Louisville Slugger Museum, Caesar's Palace in Indiana, the Kentucky Derby, and a brewery and the granite monuments at the State Capitol in Nashville. It was a hoot. Jonda's Mom & Jonda both bet on Street Sense and won the Kentucky Derby. Actually, anyone who bet on #7 throughout the day won money. I however, did not win money. That said, with the trip paid for by ESPN and Southwest Airlines... I was already up before I even got in the door! Hopefully we'll go again one day though, because I thoroughly enjoyed the big hats, fast horses, and mint julips.

My lucky streak is still on too... today I won an IPOD Shuffle from Dealspl.us... the absolute best place on the web to catch a good a deal.
So that's it folks. There was actually a TON of other things that occurred since my last post... but I'm going to call it what it is "laziness", and say that I enjoyed the last several months. I'll also mention that I've picked up a new "side" project that is keeping me very busy... so look for it in the coming months.
We hope that everyone is doing well, and we hope that everyone is looking forward to a wonderful summertime.

Spring Break 2007... Since Grandma and Grandpa were enjoying their Spring Break on the Grand Princess of Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, Jonda struggled to work from home and keep Carissa at the same time.
I think she quickly learned that conference calls and crying babies don't work well together. Jonda was able to catch up on most of her work in the evenings once I got home, but I needed to take off a day so that she could catch up on some stuff during business hours. Needless to say, half of that day turned into a trip to the Houston Zoo. The other half of the day, Jonda got to do work, and Carissa and I got to watch Texas A&M beat up on Pennsylvania in round one of the NCAA Men's Basketball tournament (what a great day to take off from work!)
Carissa enjoyed the Giraffes, Elephant, and Monkeys the best. Of course her favorite part of the day was the Carousel and Train rides, and she even got to bring home her own little monkey from the gift shop. The weather was beautiful, the crowds were bearable, and it was a perfect spring day trip.
To end Spring Break, Carissa got to take a trip to Petco were she became the proud new owner of her first pet, Fi Fi...
Fi Fi is a maroon (Gig'em Ags!) Betta. Appropriately named "Fish", Carissa can only get out "Fi... Fi", so the fish's name has evolved.
We hope everyone else had a great Spring Break!

On a beautiful spring Texas day, Marcus Keesler and Bonnie Cherry were wed at the Varner-Hogg Plantation in West Columbia.
The ceremony was followed with a reception at the Freeport River Place where there was great bbq, Texas music, and cake. Of course, in great Texas style, the groom's cake even favorited the Houston Astros!
Congratulations to Marcus and Bonnie on their day, we wish you a lifetime of love and happiness, and we hope you're enjoying your honeymoon in sunny Las Vegas, Nevada.

"It's Rodeo time Houston!" And Carissa celebrated western style! Thanks to her great granny and papaw Slaughter, she had tickets to go and see Clay Walker. She went for her first train ride, had her first taste of cotton candy, and rode her first pony. Grammy and Pawpaw bought Carissa her first cowboy hat... and she loved showing it off all afternoon.
When it came to the actual rodeo, Carissa stayed awake for the calf scramble by "mooing" at the cows, but then settled in for a little catnap and a bottle. Before long though, she was up again dancing to the tunes of Clay Walker's version of La Bamba. Of course we had to laugh though because he sang it with his daughter Skylor. We laughed because his daughter's name is Skylor Walker. Though her name reminds me of R2D2 and Vader, she actually sang rather well. Almost as good as her older sister, MaClay Walker, who did a beautiful version of a Tim McGraw/Faith Hill song.
We had a great day at the rodeo, I don't know if Carissa enjoyed the petting zoo, her horse ride, or the concert the most, but she definitely enjoyed all of it!

For the past month, we asked Carissa how old she was and her new trick was to hold up one finger. Ask her to blow out a candle and she would puff away... so when this weekend came up, she was definately ready for her very first birthday.
She enjoyed her balloons, the streamers, the presents, and the cake. Oh wait, she didn't enjoy the cake (see movie below). Actually she enjoyed the cake for breakfast the next morning, but evidentally it took her a whole day to warm up to the cream cheese frosting and strawberry cake.
It's been three days since her birthday, and thinking back to the past year, it just seems to have been a blur. As a new parent, I'd have to admit that the past year was the fastest of any of the previous twenty nine. Each day she gets a little taller, a little faster, a little smarter... and a little more fun.
Congrats to Carissa on her milestone, and thanks to everyone for making it a very special day.
