The ports of call for this trip are Aruba, Colombia, Panama Canal, Costa Rica, and Jamaica. We have two full pages of adventures to choose from!
We have our pick of anything from horseback riding on a Aruba beach, to touring the Cartagena fortress, to an aerial tram or rail car along the Panama Canal, to rainforest river tubing or a jungle river eco-adventure in Limon, to a dolphin and stingray encounter in Ocho Rios.
One excursion that is particularly catching my eye though is the ‘Ocean Kayak to Dunn’s River Falls’ in Ocho Rios. It should bring back some fond memories for Travis and me. We took a Pacific Ocean kayak ride while we were in Puerto Vallarta on our honeymoon almost five years ago.
Well, I guess to be honest, I should have said "
Travis does the paddling.

This rainy weather that Dolly brought to us is making me very sleepy this afternoon. I just really want to go home and curl up on the couch with a blanket and my book. Instead, I am stuck here staring at the fabric walls of my cube. Listening to the annoying ringer of a cell phone that someone left unattended on their desk…. And it keeps ringing every two minutes…. And it is about to be ‘lost’ if it isn’t careful. Heh.
Speaking of my book, I have been meaning to thank Rita for steering me to the A Song of Fire and Ice series by George R.R. Martin. Oh my lord how I *heart* them! I am not one to pick out a fantasy-genre book (or any book for that matter that is over a thousand pages long) on my own, but this set is fabulous, and I love the story just as she promised I would.
Once I finally got over my fantasy bias and cracked it open, I literally plowed through the first one and rushed out to Barnes & Noble to buy the second and third of the series. The third book that I’m reading currently is starting to get a touch plodding, but it is still keeping my interest well enough.
I will be taking a little break in the series before going on to the next few because Breaking Dawn, the fourth and final book of the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer, comes out next week – yip!
But, knowing me like I do, I will have a hard time not cheating and take a quick peak over at wiki to get some story updates on A Song of Fire and Ice!

Julie Corne/Yarborough recently contacted me with some changes for our family tree:
And Janna Junkin/Kuykendall (master of the family tree) who had already updated the family tree was kind enough to supply me with an updated version she already had...
In addition, Janna has some AWESOME photos on her flickr site. Many thanks to Julie for the updates and for Janna for keeping up with the growing family!

Aunt Vickye and family recently visited Luckenbach, TX. Home of some of the greatest "Texas" music you'll ever hear. They had bought my grandfather, Johnye Slaughter, a brick at the General store to commemorate his service in the Army some time back. She put together a great video of them on their trip. Unfortunately Jonda and I weren't able to make the trip, but we heard that everyone had a great time.
If you've never been to Luckenbach... we suggest you visit. It's a pretty cool place on the map.

While Travis and I were camping this weekend, Carissa spent a couple of nights with her Grammy. Now, when Carissa has a sleepover she just doesn’t pack up a couple of outfits and diapers to last a few days. Oh no way. When Carissa heard that she was going to Grammy’s and that her cousin Hunter was coming too, she started making out her list of stuff she wanted to bring.
We had a purple backpack full of the essentials: clothes (she picked out all Lightning McQueen or Thomas T-shirts and shorts, nothing cutesy of course), diapers, wipes, emergency form, bathing suit, sunscreen, etc.
Then she had her Thomas backpack full of her toy selection. Included in this bag was her push-and-play Thomas and Percy engine, Lighting McQueen ball and bat, stuffed Goofy doll, multiple little plastic dinosaurs from Incredible Pizza, her green wallet, three whoobies, a Magenta dog, and others.
You think that was it? She also carried along her three Chipmunk stuffed toys (yes, the Alvin, Simon, Theodore ones that used to belong to my brother), a CD case filled with movies, her tackle box full of race cars, and the race car rug that belongs back at Grammy’s house.
What can I say, I guess she just might take after me. My dad still talks about the time we went on a cruise and one of my three suitcases only had shoes in it.
Anyway, after I dropped Carissa off with Pat and Hunter at the designated 288 Target meeting place, they went over to Bass Pro Shop to check out the fishes. Pat saw a really cute little shirt that was pink and said ‘I Love Fishing’ or something similar, and asked Carissa if she wanted it. Carissa said ‘No, I want that one’ and pointed to another shirt.
The shirt my little princess wanted (and her Grammy got for her) was dark green with a deer and a blue monster truck on it. And, as if that wasn’t enough, it was inscribed with ‘This Kid Likes Big Trucks and Big Bucks’.
Great….
